Raw scores are summarised so that conditions can be compared. A measure of central tendency is one value that shows the typical score: the mode (most frequent score), the median (middle score when the scores are in order) or the mean (all scores added, then divided by the number of scores).
A measure of spread shows how varied the scores are. The range is the highest score minus the lowest. The standard deviation shows how far scores are, on average, from the mean: a small value means the scores are close together and a large value means they are spread out.
Data are presented in tables, bar charts, histograms and scatter graphs. Each needs a title and labelled axes.
